Play-Based & Child-Centred
Our curriculum follows the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Framework by Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) and the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC).
Learning is play-based, interactive, and adapted to children’s natural curiosity. We focus on continuous observation and portfolios, with no formal exams.

Play-Based & Child-Centred
Our curriculum follows the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Framework by Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) and the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC).
We believe that learning happens best when children are engaged, happy, and exploring. Our teachers guide rather than lecture, using continuous observation and portfolios instead of exams.
Our Bilingual Approach (English & French)
At Little Loovidra, we prepare children for a global world without academic pressure. Our language policy is simple:
-
🗣️ 80% English / 20% French
English remains the main medium of instruction to ensure rigorous preparation for the Ugandan primary system. French is integrated naturally into daily routines. -
🎈 Playful Immersion
No formal "lessons" or grammar. Children absorb the language through repetition, songs, puppets, and gestures. We focus on auditory familiarity and joy.
"The goal is not linguistic mastery, but daily familiarity. We want children to associate the French language with a joyful, positive experience."
How We Learn: Thematic Studies
Instead of isolated subjects, we use Thematic Studies that last for 3 to 4 weeks. This allows children to explore a topic in depth through Math, Art, Language, and Science simultaneously.
🌱 Example Study: "Trees & Nature"
- Observation: Touching bark textures (Rough vs Smooth).
- Math: Counting leaves and sorting them by color.
- Language (Bilingual): Learning "Tree/Arbre" and "Leaf/Feuille".
- Empathy: "How do we take care of our garden?"

🦋 Gentle Discovery
For our youngest learners, school is about feeling safe, loved, and curious. The focus is on sensory play, motor skills, and early socialization.
- Social: Playing near others, sharing toys, saying "Goodbye" to parents.
- Physical: Gross motor play (climbing, dancing) and fine motor (stacking blocks).
French Goals: "Auditory Exposure"
No teaching, only exposure.
- Listening to songs and nursery rhymes.
- Mimicking simple gestures (waving for "Bonjour").
- Using puppets to create interaction.
Outcome: The child smiles and recognizes sounds.
🚀 Symbolic Learning
Children begin to understand that symbols (letters, numbers, pictures) have meaning. Curiosity explodes at this age!
- Numeracy: Counting 1-10, recognizing shapes and patterns.
- Literacy: Listening to longer stories, recognizing their own name.
French Goals: "Words & Understanding"
The ear becomes familiar, the child starts to repeat.
- Recognizing familiar words (colors, animals, family).
- Understanding simple instructions ("Sit down", "Come here").
- Answering simple questions with one word.
Outcome: The child understands and repeats simple words.
🎓 School Readiness
We prepare children for Primary 1 with confidence. The focus shifts to more structured activities while keeping the fun alive.
- Literacy: Phonics, writing simple words, storytelling.
- Problem Solving: Simple addition, logic games, science experiments.
- Tech: Introduction to basic digital literacy (optional).
French Goals: "Expression & Confidence"
Using language to communicate.
- Using short sentences ("Je m'appelle...", "C'est rouge").
- Singing with understanding of the meaning.
- Short dialogues and role-play.
Outcome: Ready for a bilingual environment in Primary.
